About Us

The Nano-Network, a Northeast Ohio based organization was founded in 2003 by scientists, entrepreneurs, and financiers to improve and expand nanotechnology research and commercialization efforts in Ohio. Since inception, the Nano-Network has expanded to over 400 active members which includes engineers (electrical, mechanical and chemical), scientists (medical and materials) and business professionals from both industry and academia.

The Nano-Network’s objective is to act as a hub for the awareness, development and commercialization of nanotechnology in Northeast Ohio. We are playing a vital role in making the region a recognized center in nanotechnology activity.

The Nano-Network has sponsored a number of meetings and activities designed to unify and invigorate the nanotechnology community in Northeast Ohio. These activities include major conferences such as Nano Week™, a nanotechnology business idea contest, advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill and at the Ohio Statehouse, as well as regular meetings and networking events, held approximately every 2 months.

In 2005, NorTech, the regional economic development organization focused on aligning and leveraging the region's technology assets to build a more globally competitive technology economy, assumed management responsibility for the Nano-Network. 2006 has seen a continuation of nanotechnology events and presentations, with increasing attendance and interest.

What people we are saying ...

"Our strengths have

historically been materials, manufacturing and medicine. These fields are seeing great advances as a result of nanoscience and nanotechnology

developments. To stimulate innovation in these fields using nanotechnology

will require further education, communication and collaboration among

researchers, businesses and government. The Nano Network facilitates the 'meeting of the minds' to initiate and sustain these relationships."

--Alexis Abramson
Assistant Professor,
Mechanical Engineering,
Case

"Nanotechnology is a major contributor to job growth, economic activity, and profits in Northeast Ohio. The Nano-Network cuts through the hype to the realities of nanotechnology and its applications for today."

--Andrew Sherman,
CEO
Powdermet, Inc.

“The Nano-Network brings together industry leaders, researchers and other experts who work together to accelerate the development of nanotechnology as a powerful driver of real-world change for consumers, businesses and regional development.  It’s one of Nanofilm’s most valuable networks.”

--Scott Rickert, President, Co-Founder and CEO, Nanofilm
